Setting up Email Notifications

As part of Rule Lifecycle Management App settings, App Administrators can configure settings for email notifications that alert Rule Owners about rules needing attention. Optionally, the App Administrator can configure the content of the outgoing email message.

To access these settings, navigate to Settings >Email notifications.

Configure Email Notification Settings

Configure settings for email notifications. As part of these settings, you can determine whether the system sends notifications each time a scan runs.

Enabling/disabling automated notifications after scans

By default, RLM sends an email notification to rule owners each time a scan assigns rules to them. Owners receive notifications for new or updated rule assignments. This behavior can generate unnecessary notifications, for example during initial testing of the mapping logic, frequent firewall rule base changes, or the addition of new infrastructure.

Notify rule owners after every scan
When not selected, the default, RLM does not send email notifications each time a scan runs.

Notification settings

In the Email notification section, enter the following information for the outgoing emails:

  • Outgoing SMTP server

  • Port

  • Login user name

  • Login password

  • Sender email address

  • Select Enable TLS to encrypt the email notifications.

  • Recertification Email Cadence (Days): Disabled by default. Enter the frequency, in days, to send email notifications on rule ownership. RLMsends email notifications only if the owner has one or more rules in My Queue.

Configure Email Message Content

Use this section to configure and personalize the content of the email messages that RLM sends to owners.

It is HIGHLY recommended to test your email notifications.

In the Recertification Notification Content section, complete the following:

  • Subject Line Content: Add the text for the Subject of the email message.

  • In Email template, use the default template for your email body, or customize the content as required.

From the list of Dynamic Fields, select one or more fields insert into your message:

    • Owner Username

    • Owner First Name, Owner Last Name: Use when users are manually configured in SecureChange.

    • Display Name: Use when users are added using LDAP or AD.

    • Number of Rules in My Queue

    • Link to My Queue

    • Link to RLM User Guide

  • Change Logo: Click to add a logo to the message. The recommended size for the logo is 118x80 px.

  • Preview Email Template: Display the message content.

Example: Add a salutation

Add a salutation at the beginning of the message.

  1. Place your cursor at the beginning of the first line in the email template.

  2. Type Greetings, and from the Dynamic Fields list, select Owner First Name or Display Name based on how you added users.

  3. Click Add.

  4. Type a comma (,) and press <Enter>.

The message now includes a personalized salutation. Because the field is dynamic, RLM inserts each owner's first name or display name, when it generates the email message.
